The recovery of a single surviving ledger leaf dated 17 April 1941 has made some arrangement for the cataloguing of such material unavoidable.
Papers believed to have formed part of the former House records will therefore be assigned a reference upon accession to the Archive.
Where the nature, date or provenance of an item is uncertain, the uncertainty is to remain recorded as such. Missing passages are not to be supplied merely because their absence is inconvenient.
Reproductions and reconstructions will be identified accordingly.
The Committee sees no particular advantage in making the Archive exhaustive. Material unsuitable for public inspection will remain unsuitable for public inspection.
The present arrangement is to be regarded as sufficient until it ceases to be so.
